Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Provisional Fellow to join the Medical Oncology team at the Concord Cancer Centre 


What you will be doing:
This position is open to Medical Oncology Advanced Trainees who have completed core training or Medical Oncology Fellows wanting to pursue a higher research degree or research year. The part-time role will involve research supervision by a medical oncologist in the medical oncology department. Clinical responsibilities will include outpatient clinic relief cover for core Medical Oncology Advanced Trainees who are on leave and participation in the Medical Oncology on call roster (first on-call with a medical oncologist second on call). Candidates who wish to pursue a higher degree are preferred, but those wanting to do research for one year are also encouraged to apply.

The Concord Cancer Centre:

The Concord Cancer Centre at Concord Repatriation General Hospital has recently moved into a new development with new outpatient and treatment areas, offices and inpatient ward. The comprehensive cancer service now has on-site radiotherapy and a PET scanner with existing palliative care services and specialty medical, nursing and allied health services across common cancer types. It is a modern space and facilities with a warm and welcoming environment for people with cancer and staff involved in their care. 

All Medical Oncologists at the Concord Cancer Centre have higher degrees and experience in research supervision and mentoring of Advanced Trainees and Fellows in clinical research across a broad range of themes. The Medical Oncology Department has a strong track record of supporting higher degree students through to completion and considers Fellows to be key members of the team. 

The duration of the position is for one full year (twelve months).

Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre’s of excellence. Major services include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Possess Fellowship of the RACP or currently be an Advanced trainee in Medical Oncology.
  3. Demonstrated excellent clinical skills, judgment, expertise, and attention to detail.
  4. Demonstrated teamwork within a multidisciplinary team, high level time management, problem solving and communication (both written and verbal).
  5. Preparedness and ability to work independently in a supervised research environment.
  6. Demonstrated interest and willingness to teach Junior Medical Staff.
  7. Demonstrated good progress in the RACP Medical Oncology Training Program.
