About this role

 

Tobacco and vaping use represent significant public health challenges for the community and recent legislative reforms have strengthened the regulation of both tobacco and vaping, including the move to a licensing scheme for tobacco retailers. 

 

The Principal Legal Officer will work on a range of different legal issues associated with the reforms, including commercial matters, administrative law and interjurisdictional issues.

Legal Officer Grade 6 $161,04-164,246 plus super and annual leave loading with a 35-hour work week.

 

 

 

What you'll be doing

 

  • Providing advising to various Branches within the Ministry and senior executives in relation to the legislative reforms 

 

  • Working with various Branches in the Ministry in relation to various administrative law issues that arise in relation to decision making

 

  • Providing advice on a range of contractual and commercial matters associated with the licensing regime

 

  • Cross agency and jurisdictional collaboration 

 

 

About you 

 

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals with: 

 

  • Legal qualifications, and holds a current practising certificate

 

  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and negotiate

 

  • The ability to manage own workload, and work in a small dynamic team environment
