What you'll be doing
The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (SCHN) is committed to improving the care provided to our patients in line with our vision of Working together to improve the health and wellbeing of our community.
The CHW Engineering and Maintenance Services Department aims to provide high quality customer focused repair and preventative maintenance services to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and other site facilities to support the safe, efficient and effective delivery of healthcare services.  It is also responsible for ensuring Hospital operations satisfy the Government Energy Management Policy (GEMP) and Hospital Assets are managed in accordance to DOH guidelines and Health AMMS (Assets Management Maintenance System) requirements.
The Plumber in the Engineering and Maintenance Department provides corrective and preventive maintenance of domestic, commercial and institutional plumbing and sanitary fixtures and fittings, and hydraulic services plant and equipment, to ensure that all such equipment and systems are kept in optimum operational condition.
The position is also responsible for carrying out the necessary works associated with new installation and extensions to plumbing and sanitary fixtures and fittings, and hydraulic services plant and equipment as required 
This position is also required to review hydraulic drawings of proposed CHW projects as required.
  1. Current trade qualifications with extensive experience in plumbing and gas fitting.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of current WHS Act and relevant regulations as well as knowledge of current relevant Australian Standards and Legionella prevention in water systems.
  3. NSW Health recognised qualification in Thermostatic Mixing Valve and Backflow Prevention Valve installation, commissioning and repair or commitment to obtain qualifications within 12 months.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of general plant and equipment operation and performance in a commercial environment and have an ability to assess repair requests and organise appropriate actions to effect repairs, sometimes with minimal supervision, whilst still working cohesively within a team environment.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for buildings, plant and equipment in a hospital or other complex environment.
  6. Demonstrated ability to be able to read plans, specifications and interpret drawings, estimate cost, time and materials of plumbing works.
  7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Be available for afterhours call-back in an emergency or as reasonably required.
