Paediatric Physician Basic Trainee
NSW Paediatric Physician Training - Eastern and Western Networks
Paediatric Physician Basic Training positions are accredited for Paediatric Basic Training as outlined by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. This position is for Trainees entering into a Network Paediatric Training Program. Successful applicants will be issued with a 3 year training program contract to complete Basic Training in Paediatrics and Child Health, to commence asap within the current clinical year.
PPBTs are appointed to one of the NSW Paediatric Training Networks (Western or Eastern), each of which is made up of a number of health facilities. As these are network training positions, these roles involve training at a variety of locations and clinical departments. In order to comply with Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) training program requirements, PPBTs are required to work at peripheral accredited sites (which may include private hospitals). Refer to attached document for sites listed as being within the network - these facilities may be outside of NSW; some facilities may not be listed.
Trainees complete Basic Training over three years (36 months full time equivalent) guided by the Basic Training handbooks and curricula in Paediatrics & Child Health. The first year will be as PGY3 or at the year commensurate with years of postgraduate experience. During each clinical year, you will be asked to undertake an internal review with performance appraisal by the Director of Paediatric Education at which time you will be asked to demonstrate satisfactory progress and progression through training. Physicians and other health professionals supervise and mentor trainees throughout their training. The Divisional Written Examination and Divisional Clinical Examination is towards the end of training to test a trainee's knowledge and skills and determine if they are eligible to progress to Advanced Training.
Part time / job share is not available for the first year of this 3 year training contract. A limited number of job share arrangements may be available during subsequent years within the network of appointment. Applicants who wish to job share in their second and/or third year of training will need to discuss this with the Chief Resident and Director of Training.
Please refer to the position description, Paediatric Training Network document and relevant contact person for further information about the position.
