About the Opportunity
The NSW Quitline Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Aboriginal communities to promote smoking and vaping cessation services and influence and drive utilisation of the Aboriginal Quitline service. This role will work with the Quitline Operational Manager and Counsellors to ensure a culturally sensitive and high-quality service is provided to Aboriginal peoples.
You will have sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture and current social and community issues affecting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across NSW, as well as demonstrated understanding of the determinants of health and the impact of health systems on equity and outcomes for Aboriginal people in NSW.
Your previous experience in Aboriginal health, along with your verbal communication skills are essential to the role, as is a professional can-do-attitude, ability to effectively collaborate and work as a team player.

Essential Requirements
- This is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander role and applicants must be of Aboriginal descent, identify as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 (d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline such as health, and/or demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience.
- Sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture and current social and community issues affecting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across NSW and demonstrated understanding of the determinants of health and the impact of health systems on equity and outcomes for Aboriginal people in NSW.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence and work with Aboriginal organisations, a diverse range of stakeholders and community to achieve effective outcomes and deliverables.
- Must have a current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 Licence acceptable).
