The Integration Counsellor provides therapeutic and case management services to abused/neglected children, youth, and their carers.

What you'll be doing
The Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS) is responsible for strategic leadership, clinical service provision and capacity building for the portfolio areas of sexual assault, domestic violence and child protection.

The Integration Counsellor position is responsible for the provision of specialist therapeutic and case management services to children, young people and their carers who have experienced physical abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence or neglect – referred by Child & Family Health, Youth Health and/or the Whole Family Team.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling
  • Registration: Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualification (minimum bachelor degree) in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling and eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.
  2. Demonstrated counselling experience working in child protection or related service delivery settings, with capacity to draw on a wide range of therapeutic modalities.
  3. Demonstrated high level assessment, case formulation, intervention planning (including case management) and counselling skills with children, young people and adults, with capacity to implement a range of therapeutic models.
  4. Demonstrated high level understanding of the inter-related dynamics and effects of physical abuse and neglect, sexual assault and domestic violence and a commitment to integrated models for working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of current policies and legislation relating to child protection and other forms of interpersonal violence and knowledge of legal systems involved in child protection service provision.
  6. Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work with in partnership with others.
  7. Experience in, or commitment to, working with individuals and families from indigenous backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
  8. Hold a current driver's license valid in Australia and willingness to use for work purposes
