About Us
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a wonderful place to expand your career and grow your skills and knowledge. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we provide a range of public health services to the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Region.

Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

The Nepean Genetic Services provides a diagnostic and genetic counselling service for patients in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The team is currently seeking a Genetics Counsellor on a part time assignment.

The Genetics Counsellor provides comprehensive genetic counselling services to outpatients and inpatients of Nepean Hospital with supervision from a clinical geneticist as part of a team based in the Department of Clinical Genetics at Nepean Hospital. The successful candidate will maintain and develop genetic counselling input into other services such as Obstetrics and the Perinatal Ultrasound Unit at Nepean Hospital and identify and target specific areas of service relevant to the population of NBMLHD.

In this position, you will provide formal teaching and in-service opportunities to other hospital clinical staff and students to increase their awareness and understanding of the issues raised by genetic medicine, the impact on individuals and families, and how to incorporate this knowledge into patient care. You will liaise with other hospital, health and community service agencies to assist with access to genetic counselling services and to aid coordination of ongoing medical or counselling needs of individuals or families to assure continuity of care.
