About the Role
The Aboriginal Health Worker Female (AHWF) is responsible to provide culturally appropriate antenatal and postnatal (up to 6 weeks) support to improve the birthing experiences and birthing outcomes experienced by Aboriginal women in RPA Hospital.
 
To provide direct assistance and support to expectant mothers and ensure culturally appropriate dealings with other health professionals and support staff during their stay at RPA Hospital.

Ideal Candidate
  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Practice or willing to attain.
  • Aboriginal woman, with knowledge of and affinity with the local Aboriginal community but moreover part of an Aboriginal community with firsthand understanding of Aboriginal families and culture.
  • Experience in working effectively with Aboriginal women, families and young children.
 
 
This is an Aboriginal identified position, the applicant must be of Aboriginal descent by proof of Aboriginality, identify as Aboriginal and be accepted as such by the community. Being Female and Aboriginality are recognised as a genuine occupational qualifications and are authorised under section 31(2h) and 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
