About the Role
This position will be managed by the Community Mental Health Manager in collaboration with the Coordinator Family Friendly Mental Health Strategy (CFFMHS).
The Mental Health Service is committed to providing recovery oriented and innovative approaches to care. The service recognises consumers with mental health issues as experts in their own condition and strives to provide an optimistic and positive approach to care with a focus on collaborative decision making and social inclusion.
The Family and Carer Support Worker position is part of the Family and Carer Mental Health Program, a Local Health District and State-wide initiative to change the culture of mental health services to be more inclusive and supportive of families and carers of people with mental illness. The position is required to link closely with Carer Assist, the Non-Government Organisation selected to provide individual and group education and support in Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
Your responsibilities will include:
The Family and Carer Support Worker will have a significant lived experience of being a family member or carer of someone with a mental illness and will assist with building family friendly mental health services via individual and systemic advocacy and support for families and carers of consumers.
The Family and Carer Support Worker will also be expected to support mental health clinicians to engage with families and carers of consumers where possible and appropriate.
Working with families and carers and other service partners is central to the model of care promoted by the service.
The Family and Carer Worker position is uniquely structured to work across mental health community, sub-acute and acute settings to facilitate an integrated approach for family and carer support and input into service delivery.

Renumeration: $64,985.00 - $108,229.00 per annum, pro rata (+ super +17.5% leave loading where applicable)

What We’re Looking For
- Significant personal experience of being a family member or carer of someone with a mental illness and a general understanding of issues faced by all families and carers. Experience in the health, education or community sectors is desirable
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel.
