About the role
You will identify as an Aboriginal person, and have had an extensive career in health, government, or social services as an operational leader. You will be well networked in Aboriginal Health across both peak bodies and on the ground services and have genuine ties with the Aboriginal communities across our District. Your innovative approach and ambition to improve the Health of Aboriginal communities will be reflected in the results you have achieved to date, and you will be wholly committed to making meaningful gains in Aboriginal health to help Close the Gap.
Reflecting the authenticity of our purpose, this critical leadership position will report direct to the Chief Executive as a full member of the executive team and will be highly influential in leading our approach across all directorates to make meaningful gains in Aboriginal Health.
Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) serves 278 000 people including over 36 000 Aboriginal people - 13% of the District’s population, the highest proportion of Aboriginal people in any NSW LHD. We are well underway in our journey to make meaningful gains in Aboriginal Health, and our ambition is to have a significant and positive impact in partnership with our Aboriginal communities. WNSWLHD was the first LHD in NSW to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan, with our second plan about to be launched.
We recognise our Aboriginal workforce is key to improving access to mainstream health services, employing over half of NSW’s Aboriginal Health Practitioners. Over 7% of our workforce identify as being as Aboriginal, in roles across all occupational groups and levels of responsibility. Our ambition is to be a leader and role model for all parts of NSW Health in how we develop and grow work opportunities for Aboriginal people throughout their careers.
