About the Opportunity
The Event Manager strategically leads the planning, development, and delivery of major and high‑profile events for the Cancer Institute NSW - including the NSW Cancer Summit, the NSW Premier's Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research, sector-wide engagement forums, and key internal events.

The role provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Institute's events function, ensuring all events align with organisational priorities, uphold NSW Government standards, and strengthen stakeholder engagement. The Event Manager oversees event governance, planning frameworks, budget management, operational delivery, risk management, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

The role acts as the Institute's subject matter expert and point of escalation for major events, providing authoritative advice to senior leadership on event strategy, risk, and delivery.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience strategically leading large-scale corporate or government events, conferences, and high-profile programs.
  • Proven ability to manage complex event portfolios, competing priorities, and organisation-wide projects.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing event budgets, procurement, external agencies, and contract management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to prepare high‑quality briefs, documentation, stakeholder communications, and executive advice.
  • Experience leading evaluation, risk management, and continuous improvement in event settings.
  • Knowledge of NSW Government policies, governance, procurement, and reporting requirements, or ability to rapidly acquire.
