What you'll be doing
The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Mental Health Service (HKMHS) Consumer Peer Workers will draw upon their lived experience of mental health challenges and their personal recovery journey in a safe and effective way, to develop empathic relationships and support personal recovery of consumers accessing HKMHS.
The purpose of these positions are to offer support to consumers through their journey in mental health services by providing peer support, individual consultations, education and group interventions aimed at facilitating recovery principles of hope, choice, self-determination and social connectedness.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain & Current NSW Drivers Licence.
- Past or current personal experience of using Mental Health and/or Drug & Alcohol related services, and able and willing to utilise aspects of your lived experience to support others individually and/or in groups, in a safe and effective way.
- Experience in the provision of peer work in mental health or like settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to consumer led recovery principles and trauma informed care.
- Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective working relationships with a diverse range of people, including the people using Mental Health Drug & Alcohol services, managers and community members.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to clinical care planning processes in a team setting.
- Demonstrated clear written and verbal communication and negotiation skills including information technology skills.
