What you'll be doing
Independently manage the day to day operations and administration of the phleobotomy team including , but not limited to:
  • Training of staff including ward and research staff in the art of venepuncture and blood collection techniques 
  • Management of phlebotomy staff (recruitment, supervision, performance management, workload allocation, appraisals)
  • Actively initiating and leading service reviews and development
  • Representation of the department at relevant meetings and committees 
  • Initiate and drive the development and updating of relevant policies and procedures 
  • Coordination of data collection and statistical reporting
  • Leadership role in the staff professional development program
  1. At least eight years practical experience in blood collection techniques with at least four of those years in Paediatric phlebotomy as well as very good pathology terminology
  2. Previous experience in staff supervision with at least three years' experience in paediatric phlebotomy training with experience in documentation of assessments and training programs and preferably holding a Certificate IV- training and assessment of blood collection techniques
  3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop strong and collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders
  4. Experience in coordination and dealing with research study processing and procedures and transportation of specimens and documentation of same
  5. Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  6. Previous experience in administrative duties including rostering, demonstrated experience with Health Roster and procurement, documentation of statistics and production of reports.
  7. Very good time management and organisational skills. This includes the ability to manage a busy workload as well as demonstrated initiative and proactive problem solving abilities.
  8. Computer Skills including competence with Pathnet systems and Microsoft Office
