Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services.  Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shoalhaven Hospital is currently undergoing a $438 million redevelopment.

What you'll be doing
ISLHD Cancer Services are recruiting a Career Medical Officer (CMO) to provide outpatient support for people with cancer, as part of a multidisciplinary team, at both the Illawarra Cancer Care Centre and Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centres. The two full time (2.0 FTE) positions will periodically rotate between the Illawarra Cancer Care Centre and the Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre to ensure continuity of care, equal training and professional development opportunities across the cancer network.
 
The CMO will manage patients with solid and haematological malignancy and should have knowledge of cytotoxic agents and safe handling procedures along with the ability to chart treatment under the supervision of a senior medical officer. The CMO will be part of a forward thinking and proactive team, dedicated to improving patient outcomes through high quality patient care, and the latest clinical trial research.
 
The CMO is generally required to work Monday-Friday, with no night shifts. There is an expectation of weekend ward rounds one in five weeks. Job share will be considered.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Five Years postgraduate experience or greater (CMO Grade 2) or less than five years postgraduate experience (CMO Grade 1).
  3. Clinical experience in Oncology, Haematology or Radiation Oncology
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
  5. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team
  6. Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills
  7. Current NSW driver's licence
