Paediatric Basic Training positions are accredited for basic training in General Paediatrics or Subspecialty training as outlined by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. These positions are attached to one of the NSW Paediatric Physician Training Networks (Eastern or Western), each which is made up of a number of health care facilities. As these are network positions, they involve training in a variety of locations and clinical departments. Duties will be performed at more than one place of work. To comply with Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) training program requirements, trainees may be required to work in accredited facilities (including private hospitals). Facilities may be outside of NSW. The composition of each training network is provided in the Paediatric Training Network document. There may be additional accredited facilities not listed.

    •  Complete training rotations as part of requirements for network training within a range of hospitals and health services
    •  Perform interventions under supervision appropriate for level of training
    •  Undertake duties that will be performed at more than one place of work

    •  Build on skills learned during previous paediatric training and work towards advanced training

Trainees complete Basic Training over three years (36 months full time equivalent) guided by the Basic Training handbooks and curricula in Paediatrics and Child Health. Physicians and other health professionals supervise and mentor trainees throughout their training. The Divisional Written Examination and Divisional Clinical Examination is towards the end of training to test a trainee's knowledge and skills and determine if they are eligible to progress to Advanced Training.
