The Role

We’re currently looking for an Assistant in Nursing to join our team within the Metropolitan Reprimand and Reception Centre. This position requires the employee to undertake activities for which they have the legal authority and competence to perform (please refer to the Scope of Practice document). The person performing the delegated activity is accountable for his or her own actions and to the Registered Nurse (RN). Supervision means the direction and guidance given by a RN to an Assistant in Nursing (AIN). The supervision may be direct or indirect according to the nature of the work delegated to the AIN.

Our Location

The Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) is a maximum-security correctional facility for male offenders and is one of 3 correctional facilities within the Silverwater Correctional Complex in Sydney. Inmates who arrive at the MRRC:

  • Come directly from court on remand
  • Stay at the MRRC while they attend court in the Sydney Metropolitan Area (before returning to their home correctional centre)
  • Stay at the MRRC while they await a vacancy at a centre matching their classification.

Most offenders leave the centre within a few months of their arrival, usually because they obtain bail (and release) or transfer centres.

Salary & Benefits

Your salary of $26.15 - $28.69 per hour (+ super and leave loading) is just the beginning. You’ll also have access to:

  • Additional allowances that may apply
  • Access to salary packaging benefits
  • A fitness passport (if you’re eligible)
  • Free onsite parking to minimise your commute time
  • Fantastic training & education opportunities available

Diversity & Inclusivity

We are an equal-opportunity employer. We employ all ages and genders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans, refugees and people with disability.

  1. Give an example of a situation where you demonstrated the ability to work independently, and another where you collaborated effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  2. Please explain how you would prioritise work to meet deadlines either independently or as part of a team.
