To deliver high quality, safe, effective medical care to the patients of CMN under the supervision of specialist staff whilst undertaking learning and professional development in the area of Clinical Toxicology.

The Department of Clinical Toxicology provides an inpatient service for the management of poisoned and envenomed patients. For the management of deliberate self-poisoning patients, the department combines with the Department of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry as the Hunter Area Toxicology Service.


What you'll be doing 

Applicants are required to: 

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work within the multidisciplinary team.

  • Participate in a co-operative and productive role in the provision of patient care as a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team, including attendance at regular meetings.

  •  Accompany consultants and teams on daily rounds, attend meetings and discussions required for the provision of patient care.

  • Ensure accurate documentation in relation to patient care, with confidentiality to ensure patient records are effective and accurate.

Calvary Mater Newcastle public hospital in Waratah, NSW, is an Affiliated Health Organisation of NSW Health. It is the major cancer care centre for the Hunter New England Local Health District, delivering more than 320,000 occasions of outpatient services and in a excess of 16,000 inpatient treatments per year.  

Calvary Mater Newcastle provides an Emergency Department open 24 hours seven days a week an Intensive Care Unit, and extensive Palliative Care services including the Mercy Hospice. Hunter New England Local Health District’s Mental Health Facility and Breast screen NSW are also located on the Mater campus. 

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.   1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

  2. Currently participating in or completed an advanced training programme associated with an Australasian training body or recognised international equivalent.

  3. A minimum of 3 years postgraduate hospital experience and a minimum of 1 year of postgraduate experience in general or subspecialty internal medicine, emergency medicine or intensive care.

  4. Demonstrated communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  6. Ability to work unsupervised and work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity.

  7. Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development.
