Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated medical officer to join the clinical pharmacology and toxicology team in Drug Health Services at RPA Hospital
What you will be doing:
This position is open to qualified candidates with a background in a relevant field of medicine. You will be involved in inpatient and outpatient services, teaching and research. You will have the opportunity to enhance your skills in a chosen area. Candidates for this position will engage in self-directed as well as structured and work-directed learning of relevant principles and material.
This role has a focus on excellence in teaching and will offer you training toward Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Clinical Pharmacology. Dual Training in addiction medicine can occur from within the position, for example in addiction medicine.
Drug Health Services (DHS) at RPAH
DHS RPAH, in which the successful applicant will work, offers comprehensive services to a large tertiary referral hospital and the surrounding community. Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology provides a tertiary inpatient service and an area consultation service for patients with adverse drug reactions and drug toxicity. The position supports a range Quality use of Medicine activities in the hospital.
The separate addiction medicine service offers hospital consultation-liaison, inpatient assessment, withdrawal and stabilisation, ambulatory care including opioid agonist treatment and ambulatory withdrawal management, referral clinics and clinics in the liver unit as well as outreach clinics at Redfern Community Health Centre and the Aboriginal Medical Service..
The successful applicant will need to be able to work efficiently within these teams and communicate well with other professionals within RPAH and the community.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills in a complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated interest in quality improvement, risk management and patient safety.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience and willingness to teach junior medical staff and students.
- At least four postgraduate years and successful completion of the RACP Divisional Clinical Exam (preferred), or an acceptable equivalent examination.
- A demonstrated interest in pharmacology or toxicology, including other qualifications, clinical experience, research or quality activities.
