Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Trainee to join the premier SLHD Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training Network

What you will be doing:
This position is open to qualified Advanced trainees in Geriatrics to practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Geriatricians to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to aged care.
 
The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training Network offers you a comprehensive and well established Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training Program, with experienced supervisors, a wide range of formal education programs, a track record and resources for the completion of substantive projects. 

Our reputation is second to none with clinical rotations allocated according to your experience, interest and training needs. The final allocation would also take into account the service needs across the SLHD Geriatric Medicine network training sites.
There is opportunity for you to rotate through subspecialty training modules including orthogeriatrics, cognitive disorder clinics, surgical liaison service, psychogeriatrics, as well as a variety of community based Geriatric service initiatives.

The duration of the position is for one full year (twelve months), though many trainees would reapply in subsequent clinical years to continue their advanced training in the network to take full advantage of the training opportunities.

 

The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Training Network
All network rotation sites are part of the Sydney Local Health District. Sites for our Network rotations include: Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Balmain Aged Care Departments. All positions will participate in rotations allocated across the training network. Each rotation is approximately of 3 months duration. 

The SLHD geriatric medicine training network encompasses the Aged Care departments and facilities of the Sydney Local Health District, covering the Sydney and Inner West Local Government Areas Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury, Canada Bay, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Strathfield, and part of the City of Sydney. 
This training network is accredited for three years of Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training by the RACP Geriatric Specialist Training Committee in recognition of the training opportunities available.

 

Where you will be working:

You will be based at one of the SLHD hospitals for each rotation.  SLHD hospitals include Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. All positions will participate in rotations allocated across the training network.  If allocated to a community term you will experience outpatient care, community home visits, Residential Aged Care Outreach.

  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  8. Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in Geriatrics.
