What you'll be doing
The aim of Advanced training in Rehabilitation Medicine is to gain learning and experience in general and specialised terms, utilising evidenced based rehabilitation medicine principles, with the goal to progress through the AFRM Training program towards obtaining Fellowship.
The Advanced Trainee is to perform comprehensive rehabilitation assessments, make treatment decisions, perform procedures, maintain adequate medical records, and develop expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment. The Advanced trainee will supervise general medical management of patients admitted/referred to the Department of Rehabilitation and build an integrated care plan with interdisciplinary teams and the department to achieve best patient outcome.
Advanced trainees are expected to participate in consultative and outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings which may include hospital facilities.
Close supervision and liaison with consultants will allow the Advanced Trainee to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable individual expansion of clinical responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Sufficient clinical experience in order to undertake the clinical duties for clinical rotations, and proficiency in basic and advanced life support.
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- Advanced communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience.
- Advanced good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Advanced independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
- Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
