Concord Hospital is seeking an Unaccredited Plastic Surgery Trainee to Join the Team From August 2025.
What you will be doing
The Plastic Surgery Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for assessment and management of patients with a problem requiring specialised plastic surgery treatment. This will be under the supervision of the Consultant responsible for the care of such patients. The Unaccredited Trainee will be responsible for the communication of assessment and management decisions to other staff involved in the patient’s care; communication with the patient / family regarding the patient’s condition and management plans; maintenance of accurate and relevant patient documentation; coordination of diagnostic tests and consultations; performing of any necessary operative procedures required for the care and treatment of such patients and arrangement of patient admission and discharge procedures. The Trainee will attend as required, Outpatient Clinics of the Department and participate in the on-call roster.
The Trainee will also rotate through the Centre of Excellence Statewide Burns Unit at Concord Hospital.
The Plastics Surgery Department
The Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery Unit at Concord Hospital is part of Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney. We provide a comprehensive range of services on an inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient basis. The Unit provides services for trauma and elective procedures. Services are enhanced by a close working relationship with other specialties such as the Burns Unit, Head and Neck Unit, Ear, Nose and Throat, Dermatology and Geriatrics.The Unit provides services to the general community and at tertiary referral level with special expertise in reconstructive plastic surgery and hand surgery. The department is active in a range of clinical research activity closely integrated with clinical practice and teaching activities.
NSW Statewide Burns Injury Service
Concord Burns Unit was opened in 1975 as a specialist referral centre for adults in NSW with a burn injury. There are 10 acute burn beds, with potential to expand up to 16 beds. With the opening of the Skin Lab in 2001, we have achieved new advances in skin substitute technology, including Cultured Epithelial Autografts (CEA) for all NSW burn units.
Our Burns Theatre opened in 2007 and is staffed by dedicated burns nurses with theatre training as well as theatre specific nurses.
Our Burns Unit is part of the NSW Statewide Severe Burn Injury Service servicing the entire State of New South Wales for adults with burn injuries and other skin loss conditions. We accept tertiary referrals for any acute burn injury or any patient requiring burns reconstructive surgery. The other two NSW based Burn Units are located at Royal North Shore Hospital (adults) and Westmead Children's Hospital (children). All NSW Burn Units are affiliated with the University of Sydney and well regarded for their excellence in research and training.
Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre’s of excellence. Major services include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Previous surgical experience.
- Demonstrated progress towards career goals in plastic surgery and clinical competence.
- Demonstrated clinical competency; demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills and judgement and expertise.
- Demonstrated capacity to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in teaching and research.
