About the Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your learnings, whilst undertaking a degree, working part-time within Pathology. NSW Health Pathology is currently seeking a resilient, passionate and dedicated individual who wants to gain experience in our Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories, at Westmead Health Precinct.
Ideally, you have successfully completed your first year, enrolled part time in a BSc degree comprising of Haematology and Transfusion relevant subjects. We are currently seeking a Trainee, for a 4-day appointment to Trainee Hospital Scientist for a two-year appointment. You will receive first hand training and experience within our busy Haematology and Transfusion laboratories.

What you'll be doing
This position is suita Nble for an undergraduate student who is studying part time in a Pathology related university degree course and is only available while the incumbent is still studying in the appropriate course.
Under supervision perform a range of laboratory support and/or specimen reception services and/or collection services, and provide assistance to laboratory staff, to deliver a patient focused service.

- Current enrolment in a relevant science degree (pathology or medical laboratory science, with subjects relevant to Haematology or Transfusion) with a minimum of one year full-time equivalent study to complete.
- Willingness to learn all aspects of the laboratory environment relevant to the laboratory.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication and consultation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a values based team environment to achieve quality outcomes.
- Excellent data entry skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Awareness of legislation, policies and requirements relevant to a pathology laboratory setting.
