About the role:

This role will see you work within The Lower Hunter Sexual Assault Service (LHSAS), where you will be responsible for the provision of high quality, trauma informed and evidence-based interventions that promote safety and resilience for those who have experienced sexual harm. LHSAS works closely with interagency partners, including from the Joint Child Protection Response program (JCPRP), NSW Police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

You will be working as part of a supportive team of skilled clinicians and will receive clinical and group supervision. There will be opportunities for ongoing profession development through the Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV).

Where you’ll be working:

LHSAS is a specialist, psychosocial-led counselling unit within the Social Work stream of the Lower Hunter. LHSAS provides therapeutic intervention, advocacy and support to children, young people, and adults where sexualised violence has occurred, as well as to their families and caregivers.

LHSAS works and learns on Woonarua Country, located in the grounds of the Old Maitland Hospital. We are a small and connected team of counsellors who are linked to the broader Social Work department across Maitland, Kurri Kurri, and Cessnock.

About You:

We are looking for someone with high level skills and knowledge in working within the trauma field. You will be able to conduct duties with a high level of independence and autonomy but will also be supported by the Team Leader and Senior Clinicians.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be female under Section 31 (2) (h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Must hold a degree in Social Work which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association.
  • Must participate in the Sexual Assault on-call roster and provide consultation and/or supervision to other staff regarding sexual assault. 
  • Must participate in regular clinical supervision.   
  • Eligible to drive in NSW.

 
Additional Information:
 

  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa. 
  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary part time vacancies.
