Where you'll be working

Bombala is a town in the Monaro region of far southern New South Wales, Australia, in Snowy Monaro Regional Council. It is approximately 485 kilometres south-southwest of the state capital, Sydney, and 80 kilometres south of the town of Cooma. The name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "Meeting of the waters"

Bombala Multi Purpose Service (MPS) is part of the Inland Network. It is an integrated acute, community and aged care service that offers: emergency medicine; 8 acute beds; 10 permanent residential beds; pathology collection; pharmacy (visiting one day per week); and medical imaging (x-ray only, one day per week).

Community health services are offered locally via permanent and visiting health service staff. Clients are registered/referred via the Community Health Central Intake Service. Services encompass: nurse lead women, children, family and general services; mental health, drug and alcohol; physiotherapy; social work; dietetics; podiatry and speech pathology. 

What you'll be doing

The role of GP VMO in the ED is to provide high quality, specialised and safe clinical care to patients in the Emergency Department within the hospital setting.

The GP VMO role also provides and supports training to and supervision of clinicians in the multidisciplinary setting to achieve quality education outcomes and safe clinical practice.

This role will cover Inpatient/MPS Ward rounds and Emergency Department presentations daily.


Selection Criteria:

  1. Holds registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, General Practice (FRACGP or FACRRM) or training towards specialist or additional qualifications for Emergency Medicine (such as Fellowship in General Practice or ACEM Emergency Medicine Diploma).
  2. Demonstrated significant senior experience relevant to Emergency Medicine practice and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.
  3. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, build collaborative partnerships and provide leadership of a team.5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, build collaborative partnerships and provide leadership of a team.
  5. Demonstrated experience, understanding and commitment to patient safety and other aspects of clinical governance.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of medical, nursing and allied health professionals and to continuing self-education, research and quality improvement.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and SNSWLHD Values, goals and strategies. Commitment to participate in an equitable medical roster, including evenings, nights and weekend shifts.
  8. Additional qualifications in Emergency Medicine desirable.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
