An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Dental Officer to join the South East Regional Hospital a Level 4 Health Facility based in the Bega Valley, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.

Bega - 429 kilometres south of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW Snow fields. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with a short 55 minute flight to Sydney and daily flights to Melbourne. With a range of quality private and public schools in the area, younger generations will be looked after, growing up with fantastic friendly country folk, and a huge range of outdoor activities to keep them occupied with no long commutes.

DENTAL OFFICERS RURAL INCENTIVE (DORIS) - Dentists working in regional areas across NSW may be eligible for a Dental Officer Rural Incentive Scheme payment of up to $20,000 per annum. The Rural incentive package applies to all full time and part-time dental officers and dental specialists working in an eligible rural and remote area. Your Opportunity:

  1. Provide evidence based clinical care to patients, within your scope of practice and legislative and regulatory frameworks, resulting in quality care and a contemporary approach to dental procedures and patient care and advanced clinical reasoning skills. This will involve providing general and a broad range of complex and advanced dental procedures. 
  2. Utilise clinical tools, equipment and applications to ensure that the care provided is of a high professional standard. 
  3. Maintain accurate and appropriate clinical records, including paper based and electronic records. 
  4. Identify opportunities for improvement in clinical practice and develop and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with staff. 
  5. Provide clinical supervision and support to oral health staff. 
  6. Actively participate in approved oral health promotion and preventative programs and educate patients under your care to maintain good oral health.
  7. Communicate with patients/carers ensuring consistent care and maximised health outcomes.
  8. Encourage good and positive work

Selection Criteria:

  1. Dental qualification eligible for registration as a dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Demonstrate highly advanced skills in managing difficult clinical situations and a proven record of carrying out a broad range of advanced and complex dental procedures.
  3. A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a preventative/population health approach to patient care.
  4. Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality and abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct in line with prescribed NSW Health policies and procedures.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and sensitively with a wide range of individuals.
  6. Proficiency in the use of computer systems including electronic patient records and digital imaging.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  8. Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances within the Health Service. Evidence of a current Class C drivers licence.



Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
