About Us

The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people, and their careers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention, and early detection through to assessment, treatment, and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).

Child and Family Health Speech Pathology (CFH SP) provides services to children in the NBMLHD who are under 8 years old, utilising a primary health care approach. These services include assessment, intervention, health promotion and education to individual clients and groups.

The Senior Speech Pathology position is responsible for providing and supporting high quality services. The Speech Pathologist provides clinical coordination, clinical consultation and supervision, advocacy, education, and support to the CFH SP Department. Brighter Beginnings - Health and Development Check Senior Clinician is responsible for supervision of Level 1 and 2 SPs, developmental screening, and up-skilling of Childcare workers.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Degree in Speech Pathology with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  2. Demonstrated extensive and advanced experience in paediatric clinical services, including: Assessment, planning and evaluating Speech Pathology interventions in working with children presenting with difficulties in feeding and/or communication development.
  3. Demonstrated competent clinical decision making both independently and in a multidisciplinary team regarding service delivery for clients and their families
  4. Demonstrated high level communication skills both interpersonal and written including ability to work with families from low socioeconomic backgrounds and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  5. Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical and administrative demands. Computer competence and ability to use electronic medical records, word processing and databases.
  6. Demonstrated experience in clinical coordination and supervision in paediatric speech pathology
  7. Demonstrated ability to lead, implement and evaluate quality improvement and/or research focused on improving client outcomes
  8. Current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the willingness to use for work purposes.
