About The Role:
We are seeking motivated and compassionate Registered Nurses to join the Acute Upper GI and Colorectal Surgical Ward at John Hunter Hospital, in Ward J3 which is our General Surgery and Colorectal Ward.
In this fast-paced and rewarding environment, you will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to patients throughout their surgical journey. This is an excellent opportunity to build your clinical skills in a specialised surgical setting while receiving strong mentorship from experienced nursing leaders and the surgical education team.
You will be supported by senior nursing staff who are committed to helping you transition smoothly into the unit. Our ward prides itself on maintaining a friendly, collaborative, and supportive multidisciplinary environment. The team is passionate about mentoring new staff and ensuring a positive transition into the unit.
What You’ll Gain
Working in this unit provides exposure to a variety of specialised surgical nursing skills, including:
Surgical drain care
Stoma care and patient education
Central and peripheral line care
Complex wound management
Post-operative patient monitoring
Multidisciplinary care planning
You will also have access to an enthusiastic Surgical Education Team dedicated to supporting your professional development.
Essential Criteria
Current Registered Nurse (RN) registration
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Interest in surgical nursing
Willingness to work a 7-day rotating roster across all shifts
Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional development
Desirable
Recent experience in a surgical unit or acute care setting
Experience with post-operative patient management
Interest in developing specialised surgical nursing skills
