NBMLHD Community Mental Health offer a range of specialised services for children, young people, families and older people, through our community-based services and health centres. Our multidisciplinary health professionals and case managers take a collaborative approach to mental health care by linking with their patients to work together and consult within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

The role of Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of triage, comprehensive assessment, acute and assertive outreach services to clients and their families to ensure that clients receive the least restrictive treatment options. This involves provision of acute care interventions and follow up of clients recently discharged from inpatient services and to clients presenting to the service who have been assessed as being in need of acute care services.

The successful candidate will take part in the development of collaborative treatment plans with the client and their family or carer. Additionally, the Registered Nurse works collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary Access team and inpatient and community based services. This role is instrumental in providing support and information to the client, their family and carers as well as education to the wider community.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications as a Registered Nurse (including completion of a new graduate RN program or equivalent 12 months experience working as a registered nurse) and currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Demonstrated experience in the assessment and management of people presenting with acute mental health disorders
  3. Demonstrated excellent negotiation skills and verbal and written communication skills
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act and related legislation
  5. Understanding of recovery oriented care with demonstrated ability to meaningfully collaborate with consumers and their family and carers regarding mental health service provision
  6. Computer competency including demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of information technology systems used in Health settings
  7. Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
