The Paediatric Radiology Provisional Fellow position at The Children's Hospital at Westmead involves a clinical role within the Department of Medical Imaging, as well as a leadership and educational role. This position provides an opportunity to develop skills important for a Consultant role in the inpatient and outpatient setting, with the support from the Department Medical Imaging Consultants as needed.

Positions are available for the 2025 and 2026 Clinical Years, for 12 month Fellowships commencing from 3rd February 2025. Positions are accredited for advanced training and would be suitable for candidates planning a career in Paediatric Radiology and/ or a continuation of subspecialty training.  

This Provisional Fellowship is suitable for applicants who have completed the FRANZCR examination, or equivalent, and who are planning a career in Paediatric Radiology. The Fellow will work closely with many of the other clinical teams in inpatient and outpatient care, both clinically and strategically.  The education role includes clinical supervision within the Department of Medical Imaging as well as the Hospital wide education program. Participation in the after-hours on-call roster is expected.

The Department of Medical Imaging provides a full clinical service to all Departments within the Hospital. The position of Radiology Provisional Fellow includes participation in clinical and education activities. The Department of Medical Imaging has 17 examination rooms and uses all imaging modalities including MRI (neuro, body, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal), Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound and CT.   All equipment is state-of-the-art and networked into a fully integrated digital (PACS-RIS) Department with workstations distributed throughout the Hospital.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Completion or near completion of training with the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated interest in Paediatric Radiology, with 6 months or more experience in Paediatric Radiology. Other relevant subspecialty radiology training may be considered.
  4. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
  5. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development.
  6. Demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.
