Provisional Fellow in General Anaesthesia – Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital 2025
An exciting opportunity exists for you to join the Anaesthesia Department at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital as a Provisional Fellow. Under the supervision of our team of highly experienced Anaesthetists you will provide supervised specialist services to the patients of Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital whilst completing your specialist training and professional development requirements. The role is a targeted toward a range of Anaesthesia, which affords the successful applicant(s) to access broad experience across all surgical specialities represented. The position also allows a certain level of flexibility to support a special area of interest whilst also participating in the general department roster. You will be included as a team member on the senior on call roster.
Tamworth Hospital is the major Referral Hospital providing services to the New England North West region of NSW, a population of some 175 000. Equipped with 348 treatment spaces, TRRH is the largest healthcare facility in NSW outside the Sydney-Wollongong-Newcastle metropolis. It hosts an 8-theatre operating complex (6 in current operation) and a recently opened outpatient clinic centre. TRRH is a (Level 3) regional trauma service - one of the three regional trauma centres referring to John Hunter Hospital.
The Anaesthesia Department of TRRH consists of a highly experienced group of consultants supported by a strong team of Registrars. Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is also proud to be a long-time provider of training in the General Practice Procedural space with annual training terms offered. You will be highly motivated and energetic. You will work well under pressure and ideally you will be passionate about regional medicine. You will be an integral member of the actively expanding Department, which will encourage and support a seamless transition for you into a Consultant role with the Hospital post Fellowship.
Please note current accreditation does not enable applications from International Medical Graduates requiring supervision to attain ANZCA Registration.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Completion of minimum of 4 years clinical experience in an accredited training position in Anaesthesia recognised by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and successful completion of all elements of Advanced Training.
- Success in the Final Fellowship examination of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists
- Demonstrated high level communication skills, both written and verbal, appropriate for an anaesthetist.
- Demonstrated ability to function harmoniously, efficiently and effectively as part of high-performing team.
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently, and exercise initiative and judgment in prioritising time and resources.
- Demonstrated commitment to scholarship, including learning and teaching, and an understanding of the role of the clinical review process, audit and research in anaesthesia.
- An interest in a specific area of the specialty for further development.
