What you'll be doing

To provide support to renal services at St George Hospital through supervised management of non-inpatients, including general nephrology, hypertension, dialysis and transplant patients. Some undergraduate and postgraduate teaching will be incorporated.



At least half of the time in this position will be dedicated to a specific research project, related to the research interests of the department, including hypertension, CKD, Dialysis, Renal supportive care and Obstetric medicine.

The remainder of the role will include the provision of outpatient services in nephrology, hypertension, dialysis, obstetric medicine and transplantation. Kidney supportive care may be available depending on the interests of the successful applicant. Some teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students will be incorporated. 

 Routine management of inpatients is only required when covering for renal advanced trainee leave (approximately 8 weeks per year). Contribution to the weekend renal weekend overtime roster is expected, approximately 12 weekends per year.



Education will be provided through direct clinic supervision, weekly departmental meetings, research supervision and, if desired, participation in the NSW state-wide nephrology training programme.


The primary location of this position will be St George Hospital in Kogarah, Department of Renal Medicine. The appointment is for 12 months and 0.6 full time equivalent.


This position would suit a nephrologist who seeks 12 months of supervised experience in outpatient medicine, some ward experience and research experience.  The successful applicant will be expected to work at least 4 days a week, although hours are flexible. 

This position is accredited for 6 months of nephrology advanced training with the RACP (with the proviso that some general ward afterhours shifts are incorporated).

  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Experience in Renal Medicine
  3. Experience in Research methodology.
  4. Experience in Obstetric Medicine
  5. Progress towards FRACP
