Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be located at Westmead Hospital.
Successful applicants will provide specialist neurological care for people with Huntington Disease (HD), within the Westmead Huntington Disease Service. This includes assessment for premanifest expansion carriers, diagnosis of clinical HD, and individualised multi-disciplinary management of movement and cognitive behavioural sequelae of HD. The successful applicant will be an integral part of the Westmead community outreach team and contribute to our rehabilitation beds at Auburn Hospital, the Behavioural Management Unit at Westmead Hospital and residential care services based at St Joseph’s Village Auburn.
The successful applicant will also contribute to the Westmead Neurology Department, including general neurological and thrombolysis on-call, research with the Huntington Disease Service, and teaching of medical trainees and students. This position can be job-shared.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying.
Essential Requirements for Appointment
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in neurology- expertise in movement disorders, and/or cognitive and behavioural neurology in particular, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
• High level interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
4. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
5. Experience with genetic forms of dementia desirable.
6. Experience with intrathecal Infusions desirable.
Selection Criteria
1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.
2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.
