This is a temporary full time 38 hours per week maternity relief position until 7th December 2025 with the possibility of an extension at same/reduced hours, with job share to be considered for this role.

What you'll be doing

The Nurse Educator is responsible for the planning and development of education and training programs. These programs will serve to facilitate the development of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, culminating in the provision of safe, quality, person centred patient care. The Nurse Educator will work closely with the Nursing Executive to facilitate and support the delivery of these education programs at the site/service level.

The Nurse Educator will also work closely with the Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists to undertake the review, implementation, education and evaluation of relevant policies and procedures relating to evidence based clinical practice.

As per the NSW Public Health System Nurses' and Midwives (State) Award 2019 the responsibilities for the three grades of Nurse Educators are as follows: 
Nurse Educator Grade 1 shall be responsible for the development and delivery of nursing education courses/programs at the public hospital, or the community based service level. Nurse education courses/programs shall mean courses/programs such as:
  • Post-registration certificates
  • Continuing nurse/midwife education
  • Transition programs for newly registered nurses and midwives and newly enrolled nurses
  • Post-enrolment enrolled nurses' courses
  • General staff development courses (where applicable)
Nurse Educator Grade 2 shall be responsible for one of the following:
  • A nursing education portfolio (including but not limited to a transition program, enrolled nurse or registered nurse program) across a public hospital or affiliated health organisation.
  • A nursing education program for a clinical division or divisions across a public hospital or affiliated health organisation; or
  • A nursing education program for a community based health service such as community health or mental health services. 
Nurse Educator Grade 3 shall be responsible for one of the following:
  • A comprehensive nursing education program across a Local Health District, a sector of a Local Health District or in a tertiary referral public hospital or affiliated health organisation; or
  • The nurse education service of a public hospital or affiliated health organisation (excluding a tertiary referral Hospital), group of Hospital), group of hospitals or health facility.

This role is a Category A role. Preferred applicants will be reviewed for compliance and required to maintain compliance with the screening, assessment and vaccination requirements, relevant to your position, as outlined in NSW Health policy directive on Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases.

For positions designated as child-related employment, or positions that may result in proximity to children, you will be required to obtain a Working with Children clearance number from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

To obtain a WWCC clearance number, follow the instructions on the website of Service NSW, which includes completing an online application form and then attending a Service NSW Centre or a NSW Council Agency that provides Road and Maritime Services, to provide proof of identity and pay for the WWCC to be completed. 

Please note that a volunteer WWCC (which is free) cannot be used for paid employment.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current relevant registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and current Driver's License.
  2. Holds relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications with extensive relevant clinical experience or such education and clinical experience deemed appropriate by the employer.
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify learning needs and plan, develop, deliver and evaluate education.
  4. Demonstrated extensive experience in clinical teaching in the health care environment utilising a variety methods that are underpinned by adult learning principles.
  5. Demonstrated experience as a clinical facilitator.
  6. Demonstrated highly effective leadership skills i.e. leading practice change, leading quality and safety initiatives.
  7. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to own professional development and facilitating the professional development of others i.e. peer review, coaching and mentoring.
