Purpose of the Position
To provide a psychiatry service for people with an intellectual disability, as part of a multidisciplinary specialist Tier 4 Service (NSW Health Service Framework), for consumers (patients) within the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD), both inpatient, in the community and via virtual care.
To assess, consult/liaise/collaborate, develop plans and provide clinical management to people with intellectual disabilities who have emotional and behavioural problems as well as the provision of psychiatric support for their families and/or caregivers.
This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.
This position is under the governance structure of the North Shore Ryde Mental Health Service (NSRMHS).

Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained substantial specialist pathways. Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered.

- Experience working in the area of development/intellectual disability and demonstrated ability to advocate for needs of consumers with intellectual disability.
- Demonstrated experience providing treatment to adult consumers with complex health and mental health needs, and their families, in an ongoing basis, including assessment and treatment and ongoing review. Must hold strong knowledge of the complex physical health needs for consumers with intellectual disability and mental health conditions, and ability to provide clinical guidance and intervention.
- Experience in developing comprehensive management plans within an integrated care environment for people living with intellectual disability and their carers.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary work environment
- Demonstrated high level and timeliness of written and verbal communication skills in relevant settings, including experience writing patient reports for funding purposes, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
- Valid Drivers Licence and the ability to drive
