About the opportunity
Join the Forensic & Analytical Science Service (FASS) as a permanent full-time Forensic Mortuary Technician based at our Wollongong site.

Forensic & Analytical Science Service (FASS) specialises in providing independent and objective forensic analysis to the criminal and coronial justice systems, as well as quality scientific analysis that contributes to community health and safety. Our services include illicit drug analysis, forensic and drug toxicology, chemical criminalistics, forensic biology and DNA, forensic medicine, environmental toxicology, and environmental microbiology.

What you'll be doing
Responsible for assisting with the quality and timely completion of post-mortem examinations in conjunction with and under the direction of a Forensic Pathologist, and perform any associated duties; providing a respectful service for the deceased, families and the wider community.

  1. Hold a minimum Certificate Level IV or equivalent qualification in a relevant field to which the role applies.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental anatomy and physiology, and a basic understanding of medical terminology.
  3. Proven ability to work with the deceased in an environment that could be distressing, ensuring to raise any associated concerns and/or need for support, and adopt self-care strategies
  4. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner in a team environment, and to effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  5. Capability to display initiative and attention to detail in all aspects of clinical and administrative work practices.
  6. Sound computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office applications and ability to use information management systems.
  7. Willingness to work shift work and participate in an on-call roster, and travel in accordance with the demands of the role holding a current NSW driver’s licence.
  8. Demonstrated capacity to adopt and model the NSWHP RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence.
