The Sutherland Hospital is now recruiting to Cancer Services. The vision for nursing and midwifery at The Sutherland Hospital is to: Build a united team that provides compassionate care to our community through transformational, supportive and holistic nursing and midwifery.

Where you will be working:

The Oncology outpatient clinic operates weekdays Mon - Fri from 07.30am to 5:00pm.

There are 9 chairs and 2 beds allocated for the treatment of Oncology and (limited) Haematology outpatients. Treatments include administration of chemotherapy agents, immunotherapies, blood product support, iron infusions and therapeutic venesections.

The clinic is supported by Medical Consultants, Advanced Medical Oncology Registrar and Allied health including Dietitian, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry and Palliative Care services.

Employment in this area may require staff health monitoring.

The Cancer Care Coordinator Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Grade 2 is an experienced registered nurse with advanced knowledge of the health needs and preferences of individuals suffering a cancer diagnosis across the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow up and palliative care. 

The Care Coordination CNS Grade 2 will provide specialist clinical care to patients who have identified individual needs related to their cancer treatment pathway. The CNS Grade 2 will function as part of the multidisciplinary team and contribute their advanced professional knowledge toward the planning and implementation of high-quality cancer care. CNS' are employed according to the criteria outlined below, and in line with the NSW Public Health System Nurses and Midwives (State) Award. 

"Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Midwife Specialist Grade 2" means: a Registered Nurse/Midwife appointed to a position classified as such with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.  CNS Grade 2 encompasses the CNS Grade 1 role criteria and is distinguished from CNS Grade 1 by the following additional role characteristics: 
• Exercises extended autonomy of decision making. 
• Exercises professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills and undertakes one of the following roles: 
• Leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice and service delivery in the ward/unit/service; or specialist clinical practice across a small or medium sized health facility/sector/service; - 2 
• Primary case management of a complete episode of care; or primary case management of a continuum of specialty care involving both inpatient and community-based services; or 
• An authorised extended role within the scope of Registered Nurse/Midwifery practice.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence.
  2. Relevant Post graduate qualifications within the field and at least 3 years recent experience working within Cancer care, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans.
  4. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  5. Demonstrated skills in the development & facilitation of patient and carer education and staff, as required.
  6. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  7. Detailed knowledge and understanding of harm minimisation and evidence of leadership in safety and quality innovation. `
  8. Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology.
