What you'll be doing

The Clinical Nurse/Midwifery Consultant (CNC/CMC) Grade 1 coordinates and delivers high quality clinical care to women and babies in Newborn Care Centre (NCC) or on the Antenatal ward with an expected admission to NCC consistent with SESLHD and Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) policies, clinical business rules and standards. The CNC/CMC develops specific lactation plans in partnership with women and provides expert consultancy and advocacy for women. The CNC/CMC engages in Evidence Based Practice and complies with World Health Organisation, BFHI, National and State policies of the Ministry of Health, RHW and the Nursing and Midwifery Division. The CNC/CMC works collaboratively with Nurse/Midwifery Unit Managers, Neonatal and Obstetric staff and Allied Health to provide excellent care for women and babies. The CNC/CMC works effectively with the CMC2 of Lactation Services to provide leadership in the attainment and maintenance of the RHW accreditation as a Baby Friendly Hospital.

- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwife, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Minimum five years full time equivalent post graduate experience and a post graduate qualification in lactation
- Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing/midwifery practice
- Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice
- Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning
- Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems
- Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently
