What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) is to provide high level emergency medical care, including the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and admitted to inpatient wards. The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff, and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.
For approved training sites: The CMO in this role is eligible to enroll in and complete the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine and Short-term Training for Overseas Trained Emergency Medicine Specialist. Short Term Training (STT) pathway is offered to eligible candidates for the period of 2 years on limited registration with AHPRA .Short Term Training applicants must have completed a recognised Emergency Medicine Training program overseas and have passed the specialist examination of their Emergency College.
Overseas Trained Emergency Medicine Specialist who have passed AMC1 MCQ exam will also have opportunity to complete their AMC certificate by AMC-WBA program offered at Blacktown & Mt Druitt Hospital for IMGs

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the medical board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
- Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education. ALS2 provider or proof of commitment to complete within 3 months of commencing appointment.
- Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures (including endotracheal intubation and insertion of central lines, arterial lines and intercostal catheters), interpreting patient history, physical examination, pathology, ECG and radiological investigations to diagnose simple and complex Emergency Medicine presentations
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in 7 day per week 24-hour shift work roster.
