Where you'll be working
Royal North Shore Hospital - Finance Team

What you'll be doing
The Assistant Management Accountant will work in close collaboration with the hospital Finance Manager, Business Managers and Management Accountants to provide expert financial advice, support, and guidance in a range of areas including financial management, performance monitoring and identifying efficiency improvement strategies and revenue opportunities across a large number of departments. Stakeholders will include staff at all levels within Royal North Shore hospital and the Local Health District Finance team.
A well supported role, the Assistant Management Accountant will join a broader team of 10 and report directly to the Finance Manager.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of monthly accounting processing tasks such as journals, raising invoices, purchasing processes, intra-health transactions and other month-end accounting practices.
  • Support the Finance Manager, Business Managers and Divisional Management Accountants with cost centre manager queries along with variance and data analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health policies, NSRHS policies and procedures and Accounting Standards across the Health Service.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports and correspondence and participate in business planning and review for Finance.
  • Work effectively as an integral part of the Finance team in resolving financial management issues and implementing agreed action
  • Calculate costing and budget exercises including the completion of adhoc management accounting tasks required by cost centre managers.
  • Provide support to the annual budgeting process and ensure the maintenance and accuracy of cost centre and stafflink data.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective implementation of change processes, as may be necessary from time to time.
  •  Provide database support, both maintenance and updating on a regular basis.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, Commerce or Health Administration and/or extensive experience in accounting within a large organisation, preferably within the public sector.
  2. Advanced computer skills, including high level proficiency with using a recognised Financial Management Information System and MS Office software (particularly Excel, Word and Access).
  3. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply accounting policies, procedures and guidelines applicable to the public sector.
  4. Experience with accounting systems, including the ability to provide data and reports. Extensive experience with Oracle financial systems.
