About the role

Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Allied Health Team Leader – Palliative Care to provide expert clinical leadership and strategic direction across specialist palliative care services. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with life-limiting illness and their families, while building Allied Health capability across a large and diverse regional health district.

In this senior leadership role, you will maintain a defined clinical caseload while providing professional leadership and mentoring to Allied Health professionals delivering palliative care across MLHD’s inpatient, community, and virtual care settings. You will drive evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and person-centred care, and play a key role in workforce development, service planning, and model-of-care design.

As the Allied Health Team Leader – Palliative Care, you will:

  • Provide professional leadership and strategic direction to Palliative Care Allied Health clinicians across MLHD, including inpatient, community, and virtual care settings 
  • Maintain a defined clinical caseload, delivering advanced, evidence-based allied health assessment, intervention, and consultation to people with life-limiting illness and their families and carers 
  • Lead, mentor, and provide clinical supervision to Allied Health staff in palliative care, including early-career clinicians and rural generalists 
  • Promote best practice in assessment, care planning, and therapeutic interventions across Allied Health disciplines including social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and dietetics 
  • Lead quality improvement, service redesign, and evaluation initiatives to strengthen the effectiveness, safety, and equity of Allied Health contributions to palliative care 
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including acute services, community providers, primary care, and non-government organisations, to support integrated palliative care

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Speech Pathology, or Dietetics with current AHPRA registration or eligibility for membership with the relevant professional association 
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate clinical experience with advanced clinical knowledge in palliative care including complex assessment, care planning, and evidence-based, person and family centred interventions 
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing Allied Health staff through coaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision 
  • Demonstrated ability to implement new models of care, undertake service redesign, and apply evidence-based practice in a multidisciplinary team environment 
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement and clinical governance to ensure safe, ethical, and high-quality care in line with professional standards and legislation 
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence and willingness to travel long distances across the district
