Where you'll be working
You will be working with the Adult Survivor Program Team based on the south campus of RNSH and RNS CHC. This position will require travel across the District.

What you'll be doing
The Adult Survivor Program (ASP) Lived Experience Worker will draw upon their lived experience of childhood sexual abuse, their personal healing journey and their experience of the Health system to support the development of the Adult Survivor Program in Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD).

The ASP Lived Experience Worker will work collaboratively with Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect ( PARVAN) Services, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services and a broad range of community stakeholders to define the scope of lived experience support and to support victim-survivors using NSLHD services. This role is a hybrid strategic/care navigation position that will support the establishment of lived experience workers within PARVAN.

The position will develop empathic relationships and support personal healing for victim-survivors accessing the  PARVAN Adult Survivor Program and related key service streams and will support the design, delivery, and evaluation of group work programs for adult survivors of childhood sexual assault and their non offending parents and partners using a trauma informed care approach.

The role includes providing capacity building and education on improving Health responses for victim-survivors to staff in key service streams and community partners and provides valuable representative input into systemic issues and changes through policy development, committee activities, projects and research.
This is a non-clinical role. The Lived Experience Worker will receive appropriate training, supervision and support to carry out their role.

The NSW Health Adult Survivors Program is a statewide program which aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for adult survivors of child sexual abuse with complex needs including mental health and/or alcohol and other drug needs and the workforce that support them.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:



  1. Hold Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
  2. Demonstrated experience as a Peer/Lived Experience Worker and training in peer work or willingness and commitment to complete appropriate training.
  3. Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within the multidisciplinary team and with a diverse range of stakeholders including victim-survivors, families and carers, and service providers, to deliver responsive care.
  4. Sound knowledge of and commitment to integrated trauma informed care including knowledge and understanding of the impacts of child sexual abuse and an ability to be responsive to differences of individual experiences.
