About the Role
This is a SLHD wide service providing support for patients receiving care & treatment at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
The Aboriginal Cancer Care Coordinator will perform a liaison role: supporting, guiding, and referring Aboriginal clients, family members and carers to access timely and appropriate SLHD services for cancer prevention and management.
The position aims to improve access, equity, and health care for Aboriginal people with cancer, promoting a patient-centred care and patient-led approach to health and wellbeing. The role works to ensure care coordination for each person is informed by cultural considerations such as connection to land, gender, and kinship. The role also involves building and strengthening relationships with the local Aboriginal community and Aboriginal organisations.
The position will work alongside the existing Aboriginal Cancer Care Coordinator, Aboriginal Palliative Care Coordinator and Aboriginal Liaison Officers.
SLHD is committed to supporting the wellbeing of Aboriginal staff and the Aboriginal Cancer Care Coordinator will receive regular cultural supervision, regular clinical supervision, and debriefing as needed, particularly during sorry business and significant events.

Ideal Candidate
- This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. - Hold qualifications in Aboriginal primary health care or other health related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated active involvement and ‘lived experience’ in the local Aboriginal community, with a deep understanding and commitment to improving the health issues impacting Aboriginal communities.
