About the role

The permanent part-time 0.2FTE (two half days per week) role of Staff Specialist Geriatrician works within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to ensure that the inpatients at Riverglen Older Persons Mental Health Inpatient unit (currently in North Ryde) receive treatment in alignment with the Mission, Vision and Mission in Action of HammondCare.

HammondCare is a NSW Health-affiliated organisation all NSW Health transferrable entitlements will be recognised.



Duties include

  • To provide medical advice and care, inpatient and clinic settings, in co-operation with other members of OPMH Riverglen, ensuring best advice and care is provided to patients of Riverglen, in accordance with HammondCare policy in force from time to time and within the clinical privileges granted
     
  • Orientate and supervise and relevant junior medical staff
     
  • Serve on relevant Hospital or Service committees
     
  • Maintain the required level of personal professional development
     
  • Any other duties appropriate to the position of Geriatrician as agreed with the DMS



About you

  • Registered (or registerable) as a Specialist Medical Practitioner in Geriatric Medicine in Australia (AHPRA)
     
  • FRACP or equivalent Consultant qualification in Geriatric Medicine.
     
  • Experience in geriatric medical care and the health of older persons in inpatient and consultative settings
     
  • Credentialed experience in multidisciplinary specialist practice
     
  • Demonstrated sound and effective communication skills, including written documentation to GP's, allied health and other consultants within and external to HammondCare. Communication with patients and referrers is a key requirement for this liaison consultative service
     
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team
     
  • Organisational ability, both personal organisation and ability to supervise
     
  • Current Driver's Licence
     
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development desirable
