The Role
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital practices in accordance with the standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred care in a dynamic acute environment. The role involves coordinating and implementing comprehensive nursing care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
The nurse ensures accurate and timely documentation in electronic systems, communicates effectively with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team, and supports continuity of care. They also delegate and supervise Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing within scope of practice, contribute to quality improvement activities, and engage in ongoing professional development. All duties are performed in line with NSW Health and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District policies, demonstrating commitment to the organisation’s values and the “Exceptional Care, Healthier Lives” vision.

Today, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospitals’ state of the art facilities and professional staff provide a unique blend of general and specialist medical services for the public and community, including a 24 hour emergency services, general medicine including close observation unit, perioperative services, specialist hand and eye surgery.
The Hospital is in the heart of the Central Business District in Sydney:

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience as a Registered Nurse that applies to medical/surgical and/or emergency or perioperative clinical setting
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and be able to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
- Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
- Current computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for and implement person-centred practice.
- Demonstrated application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking to patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload.
