What you'll be doing
The Graduate Clinical Coder position (previously known as Trainee Clinical Coder) offers an opportunity to develop skills in clinical coding through a structured in-house training program. The role involves accurately abstracting and interpreting clinical information to assign codes in accordance with ICD-10-AM and Australian Coding Standards.
In this you will be able to:
- Participate in a structured training program.
- Develop skills to accurately assign ICD-10-AM codes.
- Learn how to abstract and interpret clinical data for inpatient episodes.
- Apply knowledge from clinical coding qualifications.
- Gain experience to become an independent and competent Clinical Coder.

Selection Criteria:
- Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding qualification (HIMAA) and/or a Health Information Management degree and/or OTEN Clinical Coding qualification.
- Pre-requisite proficiency in Medical Terminology.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and articulately.
- Demonstrated excellence in organisation and time management with the ability to manage competing priorities and daily targets.
- Ability to analyse, abstract and interpret information.
- Enthusiastic attitude and demonstrated ability to work both independently, within a team and be flexible in a changing work environment.
- Demonstrated experience using computer applications such as Patient Administration System (PAS) and Microsoft Office applications.
