In Sydney Local Health District our vision is Excellence in health and healthcare for all. You will be working in an innovative district that celebrates and invests in the ideas of staff, values people and offers life-long careers. Join the team at one of the leading public health organisations in Australia!

About the Role

Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.

The National Poisons Register (NPR) is funded by the Commonwealth government and all state and territory governments. NPR produces an online database of formulated products marketed in Australia, with each product monograph containing ingredient details, physicochemical properties and references to poisoning management advice. The primary users of the NPR database are the Australian Poisons Information Centres and clinical toxicology units at tertiary and quarternary hospitals. Other users include health and laboratory professionals. These users access the NPR database to guide risk assessments in cases of human poisonings.

The NPR Data Manager will provide data governance for NPR, with a focus on management of the quality, usability and security of NPR data. They will manage the assessment of the current NPR database and play a key role in providing input for a strategy and vision for the next generation of the database. They will have a significant role in managing stakeholder engagement, including NPR involvement with the Australian Poisoning Surveillance Initiative.

The Data Managers responsibilties include:

  • Working with a multidisciplinary team, including pharmacists and toxicology specialists, to ensure the NPR’s technical design, data structure and workflows meet clinical and operational needs, align with international standards and remain future proofed and flexible to changing requirements.
  • Use of data science techniques to clean, standardise and map legacy NPR data to the structure and standards required for the new solution.
  • Development of dashboards and visualisation products to support toxicovigilance trend analysis, stakeholder data requests, organisational updates and conference presentations.
  • Ensuring all data decisions and development work aligns with, and directly supports, the department’s strategic priorities.
  • Working directly with database developers to define technical requirements, test new system features, identify and test bug fixes and ensure deployments support day to day use.
  • Provide regular updates to team on technical changes and deliver training on new systems, features, data structures and processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to the NPR system, including database dictionary, redevelopment project documentation, requirements materials and supporting technical writing as required.
