The Cancer Centre for Children at The Sydney Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a Permanent up to 1.7FTE (68 hours per week) Staff Specialist to join their team as soon as possible.

 

To work as an integral member of the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, to provide a comprehensive Oncology service (investigation, assessment, planning and administration of therapy, surveillance and long term follow up) for children/adolescents with cancer. 
  
To participate actively in the development, conduct and oversight of clinical trials as principal or associate investigator. 
  
To fully participate in the Multidisciplinary team approach to care and contribution to the hospital in the area of research, education and advocacy.  
  
To participate in the development and implementation of novel cancer therapies, either within the laboratory, or in the translation of novel therapies to the clinic. 
  
To ensure that clinical services are centred on improving and delivering excellence in clinical care for children and supporting their families. 
  
Participate in reviews and quality improvement activities, and training and education of staff. 
  
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.  The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.  The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment.  No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.  The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, Paediatric Oncologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.

     

  2. Training comparable to the requirements of the RACP Specialist Advisory Committee in Medical Oncology.
  3. Pertinent clinical experience in the management of the wide spectrum of paediatric oncology diseases, focusing on patients with haematologic malignancies, along with capacity to develop and apply emerging novel strategies in cancer care.
  4. Experience in the design and conduct of laboratory experiments and/or prospective clinical trials.
  5. Commitment to participate in peer review, quality improvement, patient safety and risk assessment with a commitment to teaching.
  6. Evidence of continuing professional development together with evidence with commitment to the goals of an organisation in which the applicant has worked beyond direct patient care.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to identify, initiate, implement and evaluate clinical quality improvement within the Oncology service.
  8. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
