Position Classification: Staff Specialist
Employment Type: Permanent Part Time
Hours Per Week: up to 16 hours per week until 31 March 2026 and 24 Hours per week effective 1 April 2026

About the Role
The Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) provides Endocrine and Diabetes Services to the 900 square kilometer Northern Sydney Local Health district. The dynamic and friendly team includes 4 Paediatric Endocrinologists, 3 Diabetes Nurse Educators. Dietitian, Psychologist and Paediatric Endocrine Fellow. 
 
The Department works closely with RNSH Paediatrics and Paediatric subspecialties, Neonatal Intensive Care, the renowned adult RNSH Department of Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism, the Kolling Institute, NORTH Star Clinical Trials centre, as well as the University of Sydney Northern Clinical School. 
 
The Department provides a 24-hour medical on-call service, inpatient care at RNSH and medical consultations to the RNSH Neonatal Intensive Care, paediatricians and to surrounding hospitals and general practitioners. The Department caters for children and adolescents with a variety of complex paediatric endocrine disorders and rare diseases. In addition, the Department also provides multidisciplinary care for approximately 320 children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus and empowers patients by providing access to advanced diabetes technologies including automated insulin systems and continuous glucose monitoring. 
The Department has an extensive track record in clinical research, and appears well positioned for future progress, with excellent research Infrastructure support and a rapidly growing patient cohort. Given these opportunities, we are seeking a capable Paediatric Endocrinologist with strong leadership skills and a drive to deliver excellence in clinical practice and research, for this permanent position.
The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of health professionals providing excellent clinical services in Paediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology. The role will provide an interesting range of clinical, teaching and research opportunities. .
This position will provide clinical management and consultation service to patients covered by the Paediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology Department and participate in an appropriate on-call roster for Royal North Shore Hospital.  
  
Purpose of the Position
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. 
  
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD. 



 

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Sound clinical knowledge in Paediatric Endocrinology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
  4. Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Paediatric Endocrinology Consultant
  5. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  6. Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established.
