This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing and Midwifery in leading and developing the RNSH Nursing and Midwifery division in a manner which provides optimum patient care and customer satisfaction by utilising best practice Nursing and Midwifery standards in both an efficient and effective manner. The Deputy Director of Nursing is responsible for the day to day coordination and management of the Nursing and Midwifery service within an allocated resource framework. This includes overseeing seamless patient flow access across RNSH and the implementation of agreed strategies and targets with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery and the RNSH Executive.
The Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery reports to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery for all issues relating to the operational aspects of RNSH. This position has significant interaction with all clinical departments. External links with these and other departments occur through daily contact and scheduled meetings. In partnership with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, this position plays a key role within the combined Executive team, the senior management committee and liaises with NSLHD management at all levels.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) Registered Nurse Division 1, with post graduate qualifications in health services management or equivalent.
- Extensive recent experience at senior nursing management level in a teaching/tertiary acute hospital setting.
- Proven leadership ability and demonstrated evidence of achieving innovative change within a quality improvement and change management framework.
- Demonstrated operational, financial, and Human Resource experience at middle management levels. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including competency in Microsoft Office application.
- Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance and the current nursing and midwifery issues.
- Demonstrated experience and ability in relation to monitoring and reporting on emergency and patient flow benchmarks and experience in managing patient flows and bed utilisation.
- Ability to initiate, lead and manage complex collaborative projects amongst a multi-professional team with positive results.
