What you'll be doing

 

The Rural Director (DoT) has overall responsibility for the Psychiatry training program within the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).  Providing leadership and coordination for training in psychiatry which meets the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) requirements.  The Rural DoT is accredited by the RANZCP New South Wales Branch Training Committee (BTC).

Where you'll be working

The Northern NSW Local Health District extends from Tweed Heads in the north, to Tabulam and Urbenville in the west, and to Nymboida and Grafton in the south. We provide acute healthcare services in eight hospitals, and four Multi-Purpose Services (MPS).  Our hospitals are located at: Ballina, Byron, Casino, Grafton, Lismore, Maclean, Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads. Our MPS facilities are located at: Bonalbo, Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville.  Visit Northern NSW LHD Mental Health Services for more information on our services.

Selection Criteria

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or specialist international medical graduate pathways with evidence of satisfactory participation on the RANZCP Continuing Professional Development Program.
  2. Accredited as a supervisor with the RANZCP with an interest in teaching and/or research and a demonstrated working knowledge of RANZCP training requirements and by-laws.
  3. Ability to liaise with medical schools and JMO offices to create relationships.
  4. Ability to identify and review opportunities for development of positions and funding for those positions within the region to enhance training opportunities.
  5. Ability to co-ordinate Junior Medical Officer (JMO) placements across differing levels of expertise including the associated challenges that may arise from time to time in this regard, from either JMOs or services.
  6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal/written/personal communication skills and the ability to work within a team from a variety of professional disciplines.
  7. Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating educational programs, and capability to counsel trainees experiencing difficulties.
  8. Valid unrestricted drivers licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
